About

Gaia Fiorina Carraro is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice moves between digital environments, poetic code, and synthetic aesthetics. Her work explores the affective potential of artificial life, often through electronics, generative systems, and feminine-coded materials such as nail gel, charms, and plastic flowers—embracing DIY and open-source methodologies.

Her approach to art begins with praxis—a process rooted in instinctive making. Manual experimentation and playful construction come first; conceptual reflections emerge later. Forms, gestures, and curiosities guide her before any meaning is named. This way of working becomes a method in itself: through doing, she uncovers latent themes and theoretical threads that surface organically from the materials.

Through electronic installations, net art, and reworked technologies, she investigates the blurred boundaries between care and control, artificial and organic, play and observation. Her projects often build fragile ecologies—living systems that unfold without human command, yet remain emotionally charged. By combining retro digital references with contemporary reflections, she questions the anthropocentric gaze and representation.

Gaia studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milan) and at Universidad de Bellas Artes de La Laguna (Tenerife) and has exhibited in contexts such as Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus (Badalona), insitu3 cultural space (Antwerp) and CAAM, museum of Gran Canaria. Her work draws from her interests in cybernetics, queer aesthetics, and the ambiguous tenderness of post-natural worlds.
